Cumberland High School Reviews

i am a junior who jusr recentlty moved to pembroke high school in new york and in my opinion cumberland was a great school. I find that i miss it dearly and that it was tolerable and a very good school to go to. the classes, teachers, and administrators are great. The new building and changes are remarkable and i think itll look great when i visit back! Great job cumberland!

The elementary schools are fine. The middle school is tolerable. The high school is completely unacccountable and lacks the necessary management and direction that it needs to provide the students top-notch educations.

As a freshman moving into my sophomore year in less than a week, I can tell you that Cumberland High has already become my second home. Education, of course, is highly valued and the teachers I had this year were exceptional, always willing to help a student after their work hours. Parents, I believe, have no right to judge teachers in a negative fashion unless they've sat in the classroom with the teacher for at least one quarter. As long as you are fair and respect the teachers at our school, they will be fair and respect you back. Also, the after-school sports and arts programs are definitely something to take pride in. They are by no means a waste of money and keep kids occupied and safe beyond school hours. Most importantly, they make school fun. The current renovations taking place are great and us students are grateful for them.

The problem with this school is belongs to the town. It got left behind during the technology boom. Not enough money was allocated to keep this school updated as it aged and now we are playing catch up. I still think the money we are spending now should be put towards updating equipment so the teachers can actually do their jobs. It's amazing how other schools just as old as this one in other towns are in better shape and technically up to date. High School pride starts at the town level and works it's way down to the student. When the town takes pride in it's school system, the students will too.

I am a proud graduate of Cumberland High School. I have since graduated from a 4 Year college in Nursing. I feel that although the high school isn't cosmetically perfect what is inside is far more important. I spent many hours after school with some of the best teachers I have ever had. They not only made sure I passed but that I exceled. They CARED!!The sports programs are prominent at CHS as well as academic programs, student council, etc. CHS gave me the opportunity to become the well rounded adult that I am today. Just remeber it isn't only the school dept or the government who are responsible for molding our youth into responsible young adults. This MUST start and END with parental disipline!!! Get involved and you will find more people will be there to help than you originally thought!!!

My teachers are great. They're personable, approachable, EDUCATED people who know how to teach. In my all of my classes, I have never had a problem with a teacher. Do you know why? Because I do my homework. I don't cause trouble. I raise my hand. A good kid has no trouble at CHS. However, bad kids are not tolerated. It's not okay to cut class or be disrespectful. Don't blame teachers for you child's issues. Another thing: the building is not perfect, but it's being improved. Ceiling leaks? Gone. Tile problems? Taken care of. Bathrooms? Renovated. Auditorium? Completey redone. CHS is fine.

From what I personally have been reading in all these reviews about Cumberland High School, most parent's make it seem like it's a place of chaos and malfunction. In my opinion, seeing as I myself am a junior in that school, my overall view is not something that will make the school itself look bad. The reason why the school has absolutely no fundings and money to pay for newer books and supplies is because some parents do not feel the need to pay taxes, or get involved with the school! I bet that if the parent was in their child's spot in that school they would realize how the school is. No, the school is not a waste of money or time to be in, it has excellent teachers, an awesome principal and very good staff. Some of the people around here, don't even realize how close minded they are.

I read all the reviews and this the conclusion i have discovered ... You parents have zero idea about what you are talking about. I would like you to find a public school that doesn't have its share of problems. Many of them need help and if they are in amazing conditions then they have only recently been fixed. I personally wrote a letter to mr.Nasif and had a few meetings with him. I pointed out what i thought needed to be fixed and within the next week, things were being done. I learned more in that school than i can explain. I am at a four-year college now studying forensic psychology. Just because your child doesn't like it, doesn't mean it isn't a good school. Maybe your child could stand some more disipline in school and they didn't like being told what to do. As parents__get involved and quit complaining!

In my opinion, Cumberland High school is one of the worst schools in the state of RI and in the nation for that matter. How they find their staff is beyond me, perhaps CHS should consider COLLEGE trained professionals. The gym and athletics department is over funded where as the SCHOOL is lagging in many fields. If I could afford private school I would go there and leave CHS in the dirt...where it belongs. Perhaps when we have a new and hopefully better Superintendent, the school will make strides to becoming more of an academic field and less of a sports arena.

I think the parent ratings above are absurd, rating teachers poor along with the security of the school. This shows me that parents just like to complain about things. I don't see to many parents getting involved with their child s education. If they were, they would be helping the school make positive changes however, most just want to sit back and complain. This is just sad, considering SAT scores and Standardize test scores. Teachers must be doing a good job considering the serious lack of resources they have to work with.

I agree, the school is rundown and in desparate need of repair, but it's being worked on. One thing the school isn't missing, however, is a great principal. Mr. Steven Driscoll is an amazing administrator and takes time to get to know many of the students. There are also many fine educators, although not all. A lot of the students that complain about teachers, however, are those that are unwilling to cooperate. A student-teacher relationship is not a one-sided affair. It's something both sides need to work at in order to achieve the kind of education one expects. Cumberland High School is a decent public school with room for improvement, but what school doesn't have room for improvement? I'm not saying it's the greatest school there is, but I'm willing to bet that there are far worse educational institutions then this one. -A former student and proud graduate.

Our school isn't about our leaky roofs or our mirrors being broken but the school pride and education is what really matters. If your daughter can't see herself in the mirror then thats ok it is not a beauty school. So there are a few bumps but the new principal is making drastic changes. Our school is getting redone as I am writing this and the cracked tiles are no more there and the renovations they are doing are really changing the overall appearence of the school for the best. You need a little confidence and time. It took one new person to create big changes if more people would help out then more changes could be made quicker. I am proud to go there and I am proud to say it The education is good and the people are friendly and thats enough for me. -A Student of CHS.

I believe that the people that live in Cumberland do not give the school enough credit. Every school has its problems, and if people believe that this school is any different then they are wrong. Cumberland High School does not discriminate against people of different races or ethnicities in any way, for one. Second, you have poor teachers at every school, and are not giving enough credit to the many amazing teachers at CHS. Third, yes, the school could use some improvements, but things cannot happen overnight. And the parents that complain about the poor state of Cumberland High are the same people who are not willing to pay higher taxes so that the school district will have more money. So when reading these statements, consider the source. Cumberland High a good school that the town needs to be more proud of. - a PROUD student of CHS

The first moment my child stepped into the school auditorium he got rained on. The place had no roof. How can you expect children to learn when their test papers desintegrate when it rains...The school is broken, along with their bubblas, floor tiles, children's minds, books, and bathroom mirrors...My child wants to see herself the mirror but there aren't any...It's a major problem...Yes it is! ugh what a disgrace.

I have been in the cumberland school system since kindergarten. The education i received throughout those thirteen years (k-12) provided me with knowledge that i feel has better prepared me for college. I am now continuing my education at a four year college and i hope to become an elementary school teacher. Though the cumberland school system is very underfunded, i believe that all in all cumberland high and the cumberland school system are very good.

my daughter went to this highschool for 2 years. she had a terrible time there. the teachers are horrible. They only care about what time they get to leave and how much longer until the day ends. They think that all students are horrible creatures. some even call the students stupid and fail them because of how they feel towards them. there are good teachers but they are the young ones. get rid of the old ones that dont no how to teach and are just grouchy. being a parent and going to the meetings I see what my daughter is saying about them. and I only have to talk to them for 10 minutes.

Good teachers, poor budget, needs new windows, and some school pride! When students are active and responsible, the school provides an acceptable place to earn credits, and offers a variety of classes for college bound, though it is short on forgein languages (cut out Latin recently) Way too much emphasis on sports!

I would like to commend the new principal, he is a blessing to this school. He went above and beyond his duties to assist not one, but both of my children last year, with things as menial as schedule changes the guidance department was unable to help with. My daughter will be a senior this year, my son a sophmore, but I feel confident about this school due to the dedication and interest in students of Mr Driscoll.

There are many problems with this school district, they are given money to repair things, like the bleachers that have remained unreapiared for about a year. The teachers are uninterested in any ideas but thier own. Don't get me wrong, there are soem teachers there of the best quality. But I have encompassed many problems throughout the years.

This school should be examined for the quality of their teachers.God bless the teachers but you need to actually teach. My son had such a hard time with this school system to the point that he would not have graduated he would have quit,he thought he was stupid. He now is a B student and he will receive his high school diploma.Teachers need to understand that not all children are disrespectful nor do they want to cause problems.I am sick of these teachers saying stuff like 'kids like him'. That makes my stomach turn. One more thing if you continue to hand out detention like it is homework there will never be any respect,as a parent I would laugh at the reason for the detention.Back when I went to school it was never a good thing to have detention, now it's a joke.Things need to be fixed because they are broken.Take a long hard look.

This school is fine as long as your child doesnt need special help or he is black. Because then it might be a problem. My son has had such a bad time there and he has to return there next year.

This school is horrible. The building is falling apart. The teachers are awful. There is no school pride. Cumberland needs help.
